It just kills me that so many celebrities lately have been making ridiculous comments about how they're NOT feminists for reasons that are irrelevant to the feminist movement.
For clarification, let me define 'feminism': the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men.
That's it. No 'bra-burning, man-hating' implications at all. Just equality.
For example, Pharrell, yes Pharrell, said he is not a feminist because "he's a man".
?????? A man CAN absolutely be a feminist!!! Do you want your Mother to be treated equally? What about your sister's right to vote? Would you like your daughter to have the opportunity to run for President? YES!
Lana Del Rey talked about feminism in a recent interview saying, "For me, the issue of feminism is just not an interesting concept...I'm more interested in, you know, SpaceX and Tesla, what's going to happen with our intergalactic possibilities."
When asked if she was a feminist, Shailene Woodley replied, "No, because I love men..." <-------Whaaaaaaaaaaaat?
I love my husband very much. He is a man. I am a feminist. So is he. What a concept.
This video PERFECTLY sums up why I am a feminist, and after watching it, you might even realize that you are too. The biggest lesson here?
Feminism is NOT a bad word. It's a beautiful conviction.
