FPL Rates Going Up

Florida Power and Light will be getting more of your money next year.

The state Public Service Commission approving an additional increase for FPL to collect about $800 million from customers to cover higher-than-expected natural gas costs.

Bradley Marshall of Florida Rising says FPL asked for a mid course correction before fuel rates were given final approval from the Commission.

But FPL spokesperson Maria Moncada says the utility alerted the commission to the possible correction in September.

The increase will amount to about $7 per month for the average customer beginning in January.
