FLORIDA - A recent arrest in Volusia County, Florida, has brought attention to the issue of road rage in the state.
On July 15th, a man was arrested for allegedly waving a gun at another driver, following them, threatening them, and nearly running them off the road.
According to a study by Consumer Affairs, Florida ranks among the top 10 states for aggressive driving.
The study used data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and the Gun Violence Archive, analyzing traffic incidents from 2022 to 2024.
The report focused on fatal crashes, traffic violations for aggressive driving, and gun violence in road rage incidents.
Floridaās ranking is largely due to traffic-related gun violence.
The state reported 0.41 traffic incidents involving gun violence per 100,000 people and 0.44 violations for aggressive driving or speeding per 100,000 residents.
Additionally, aggressive driving was responsible for 23.7% of all fatal crashes in Florida in 2023.
The study also found that 3.75 fatalities per 100,000 people in Florida involved aggressive driving, accounting for 24.2% of all traffic fatalities in 2023.
The state's ranking improved slightly from the previous year, partly due to the 2024 implementation of a stricter āMove Overā law, which mandates drivers to either change lanes or slow down when passing disabled vehicles.
Other states in the top 10 for road rage include Louisiana, New Mexico, and Colorado. Meanwhile, states with the least aggressive drivers include Maine, Iowa, and California.
