Dodgers Foundation Gifts 500 New Shoes To South L.A. Students

The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation has teamed up with the nonprofit Shoes That Fit to provide 500 new shoes to students in South Los Angeles.

Back in August, the Dodgers Foundation partnered up with Dodger Wives to raise $20,000 for Shoes That Fit which helps to give athletic shoes to kids in need. The students had picked out their new pair ahead of time but the shoes were distributed earlier this week along with help from pitcher Evan Phillips and his wife Liz Phillips.

"Some of them, they don't get new shoes and so it's very rewarding," said the 28th Street Elementary School principal, Christian Beltrocco. The CEO of Shoes That Fit, Amy Fuss, said that they "want these kids to know that the community cares about them and to give something really basic that they all need."

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Evan Phillips also enjoyed stopping by to distribute the shoes saying, "just the joy they get when they see new shoes and some of them look like the shoes that I'm wearing and just to make small connections like that is really what I hope they take away from all this."
