Kristen Bell Hosts SAG Awards as First-Ever Host: Best Moments

Kristen Bell hosted the 2018 SAG Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 21, becoming the first-ever host of the annual award show.

“The SAG Awards is a show for actors by actors and not just the ones in this room,” Bell said when she hit the stage. “It is especially for the ones who have just gone on their 20th fruitless commercial audition, who are watching this in a studio apartment in Koreatown with their five roommates downing their nightly dinner of canned tuna. This is a show for you, to entice you to stick around," she proclaimed. "Everyone's story deserves to be told, especially now. We are living in a watershed moment in time,” Bell continued, addressing the recent #MeToo movement and women’s march. “And as we march forward with active momentum and open ears, let’s make sure we are leading the charge with empathy and diligence because fear and anger never win the race.”

The Frozen actress kept things light though, jokingly adding: “Most importantly, regardless of our differences, we can all come together and delight in one thing: Frozen 2 is coming to theaters in 2019.”

During the middle of the show, Kristen joked about holding the audiences’ attention, spewing out a series of unrelated things before also giving Meryl Streep a shoutout — who wasn’t even in attendance.

“Sorry I can’t resist this one, Meryl Streep,” Bell joked. “You guys she’s not even here. She’s not, but let’s keep that applause going for Olivia Munn and Niecy Nash.”

Her hubby, Dax Shepard, also got in on the fun.

"I'd like to take a minute to gush over one of my favorite people. A multi-hyphenate by definition, actor, writer, director, and producer,” Bell said, seemingly referring to her husband who was in the audience. “This very special buddy of mine is talent personified and has always embodies openness and sincerity. Not so hard on the eyes either," she shared, before the camera panned over and Bell quipped: "Ladies and gentlemen, Greta Gerwig!”

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri took home a majority of the awards, including Best Picture, while Darkest Hour and I,Tonya’s Allison Janney also continued their award season winning streak.
