Rihanna's leaning into the banter with her global fan base.
Robyn kept info on a need-to-know basis during her Fenty 2-20 collection launch event in New York on Friday, where was asked for nth time when the world could expect her highly anticipated ninth album, commonly referred to as #R9. She did, however, admit she took pleasure in teasing her fans who keep pressing her for a release date.
"I like to antagonize my fans a little bit," she told Entertainment Tonight, "Well, they antagonize me, too! So, they get it right back."
It seems anyone with a pulse and an internet connection have berated Rihanna with questions about her new music since her last studio album, 2016's ANTI. The icon has recently taken up responding to these comments and messages in a playful way, encouraging engagement while swerving around the subject.
We expected Rihanna to drop a reggae-inspired album by December of 2019 with rumors circulating that #R10 would follow up shortly after a la Justin Timberlake's 20/20 Experience or Ariana Grande's Sweetener / thank u, next. Time will tell if we'll receive any new music in 2020 from the Barbadian superstar.
