The Tampa Bay Rays (42-34) defeated the Detroit Tigers (48-29) 14-8 on Friday night at Steinbrenner Field.
The Rays scored four in the first to take an early lead, and from there answered every Detroit run for most of the night. Every member of the Rays starting nine had at least one hit - led by three hits from Matt Theiss, who went 3-for-4 with four runs batted in and two runs scored. Yandy Diaz also had a two-homer night.
