An Orange County deputy is being fired for the way he handled a middle school student, he says, was looking for a fight.

The sheriff's office released body cam footage that shows the officer grabbing the Westridge Middle School student by the hair and putting her into a police car.

Sheriff John Mina says the deputy overreacted and let the situation get out of control. He says a fellow officer at the scene was doing a good job of calming the situation when the deputy grabbed the teen.

On the video, the school resource officer can be heard yelling at the kids, calling the situation silly . He also called the children there "stupid."

The sheriff decided to terminate the deputy hours after cell phone video of the incident went viral.

Mina says he will refer all their findings to the State Attorney's Office and they can decide if criminal charges should be filed against the now ex-deputy.
