Florida City Plans To Sue Army Corps Over Lake Okeechobee Levels

Lake Okeechobee

The city of Stuart is leaning toward filing a lawsuit against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers over how Lake Okeechobee water levels are expected to be managed this year.

City commissioners are concerned over a recent release from the Corps that shows they plan to allow water storage in the lake leading into the summer rainy season.

That goes against what Congressman Brian Mast and others want to do.

They say that if the levels are too high when the rainy season begins, it may lead to discharges during the summer months, potentially bringing on toxic algae.
