Florida Reacts to Hamas Sneak Attack on Israel

MIAMI -- Florida politicians are reacting with universal condemnation of the Hamas surprise attack on Israel, which has left hundreds killed, wounded or taken hostage.

Governor Ron DeSantis says the attacks "deserve a swift and lethal response." He took a phone call with Israel's Miami consul general around midday Saturday.

Republican Congressman Brian Mast, who represents much of the Treasure Coast, calls on the U.S. to support Israel.

Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz of South Florida:

Florida U.S. Senator Rick Scott and other Republicans asserted that, not only was Iran behind the attack, it paid for it with six billion dollars in assets turned over by the BIden administration. Others insist that money is still in a bank in Qatar and can't be accessed to fund attacks by Hamas.

Miami-Dade County mayor Daniella Levine Cava ordered flags lowered for the attack's victims.

Miami Beach police have added presence around synagogues and other sites as a precaution.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Miami has launched a relief fund to help attack survivors.
