Zieglers Sue To Keep Texts, Videos, Browsing Secret In Sarasota Sex Probe

SARASOTA -- The former head of the state Republican Party and his wife are suing the city of Sarasota and the State Attorney's Office.

They're asking a judge to seal some of the records in a sexual battery investigation that led to no charges being filed.

Christian and Bridget Ziegler want to shield items including web browsing, text messages between the couple, and explicit video seized from Christian Ziegler's phone after a search warrant. The lawsuit argues that those are not public records.

Ziegler was forced to leave his post after reports of the couple's relationship with an unidentified woman became public. His wife remains on the Sarasota School Board despite calls for her resignation or removal.
