DeSantis Warns Against "Weekend At Bernie's" Biden Presidency Post-Debate

PENSACOLA -- Governor DeSantis hasn't joined Republicans and Democrats in calling for President Biden to leave the campaign after last week's shaky performance on the debate stage against former President Trump.

But the governor told a Pensacola audience Monday morning that compared to 2019, there's been a "significant decline" for the 46th president, and calls the idea of Biden serving as president until 2029, when he would be 86, a "joke."

He says Democrats are only calling out Biden's apparent cognitive issues now, because they've become glaringly obvious and can't be gaslit or whitewashed away. "They're totally fine to have a 'Weekend at Bernie's' president, part two," DeSantis said.

DeSantis didn't comment on Trump's performance, which was called out by Democrats and others who say he made false claims about late-term abortions and other topics. He did speak at length about the Supreme Court ruling throwing out the Chevron case, which gave agency officials discretion in their interpretation of federal law. "When you have a bureaucracy that acts against you... you have a right to challenge that...because sometimes people's livelihoods are at stake," DeSantis said.

The governor visited Pensacola Monday, to announce some $12 million in grants to Panhandle communities, including $4 million for an aviation mechanics program at Pensacola State College, $3 million for the DeFuniak Springs airport, and $1.3 million to build a road to a development in Santa Rosa county.
