Cooper City, FL - A young woman died after her car plunged into a canal in Cooper City early Monday morning.
Broward County Fire Rescue and the Broward Sheriff's Office responded to the scene of the accident at Griffin Road and Southwest 90th Avenue around 6 a.m. after the vehicle had plunged into a canal.
Divers recovered the body of the female driver, identified as 23-year-old Caitlynn Heron.
The passenger, 24-year-old Joseph Foster of Davie, was pulled from the water and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say the Infiniti G37XS Caitlynn was driving veered off the road, struck a concrete sidewalk, and then crashed into a bridge before plunging into the canal.
The cause of Monday's crash remains under investigation.
Monday's accident resulted in significant traffic disruptions as authorities closed portions of Griffin Road and Orange Drive.
The community is mourning the loss of the victim and offering condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time.
