Ormond Beach, FL - An Ocala man was hospitalized on Saturday after he was allegedly run over by a vehicle while sunbathing near a beach access point in Ormond Beach.
According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened just before 10:45 a.m. near the Cardinal Drive beach ramp.
Authorities say a 61-year-old woman from Ormond Beach was backing her Jeep into a parking space when she reportedly veered out of the designated driving lane and struck the man, who was lying in the sand.
Emergency responders transported the 33-year-old victim to a nearby hospital with injuries to his arm and thigh.
His condition was reported as stable, and the injuries were considered non-life-threatening.
The driver remained on the scene and fully cooperated with law enforcement.
She was issued a citation for careless driving.
Investigators noted that impairment was not suspected, though the crash remains under active investigation.
This is not the first time Volusia County has seen a sunbather injured by a vehicle on the beach.
Earlier this year, a similar incident occurred in Daytona Beach, where a woman was run over while lying on the sand.
She also survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
Driving on designated portions of the beach is allowed in Volusia County, but safety concerns have been raised over the years due to a series of accidents involving pedestrians.
Officials continue to remind visitors and locals to remain alert in shared vehicle and pedestrian zones to avoid preventable injuries.
