The American Humane Society opens a new animal sanctuary in Martin County.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new location in Palm City was held on Monday.
President and CEO Dr. Robin Ganzert tells CBS 12 News that the sanctuary is dedicated to the care, rehabilitation and training of animals as well as providing life-changing programs for military veterans and first responders who suffer from PTSD.
"This will be our new home. We'll be able to not only train service dogs for wounded warriors but also train the trainers for our program nationwide."
The sanctuary will serve as the training headquarters for American Humane's global disaster rescue and recovery services and its Pups4Patriots program, which pairs military veterans with service dogs, allowing them to live on-site and train with their dogs.
