Miami, FL - A Miami hospital employee was arrested after he was allegedly caught on camera taking a luxury Rolex watch from an elderly patient.
Authorities say Yudier Sanchez, 46, was taken into custody Friday and faces charges of second-degree grand theft and exploitation of an elderly or disabled person.
The incident occurred at Keralty Hospital on Southwest 75th Avenue.
The victim, 75 at the time, was admitted to the hospital by ambulance on September 29th, 2024.
Hospital staff removed all her jewelry, including a gold Rolex Presidential watch valued at $45,000, photographed and inventoried the items, and placed them in a yellow envelope for safekeeping.
The patient was discharged on October 7th, and her daughter discovered the Rolex missing when she arrived to pick her up.
An internal investigation and review of surveillance footage allegedly showed Sanchez taking the watch.
Video evidence reportedly captured Sanchez entering the patient’s room holding two pieces of jewelry.
He is then seen taking a camera and the yellow envelope containing the items, emptying the contents out of view, and allegedly placing the Rolex in his jacket pocket while pretending to return it to the envelope.
Sanchez was suspended by the hospital for violating internal policies and procedures.
When authorities questioned him at the time of his arrest, he denied taking the watch.
Sanchez appeared in court over the weekend, where a judge set his bond at $10,000.
He remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
