(Miami, FL) - US special envoy Steve Witkoff heads to Miami to meet with a top Ukrainian official today as efforts continue to end that country's war with Russia.
Witkoff's meeting with the head of Ukraine's national security council comes after a five-hour discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow Tuesday.
The Kremlin said those talks produced no breakthroughs. According to Putin, "It all comes down to this: Either we liberate these territories by force or Ukrainian troops leave these territories and stop fighting there."
One major point of contention is Russia's territorial demands in exchange for ending the conflict.
Witkoff, the president's special envoy and Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, will brief Ukraine’s lead negotiator, Kyiv’s national security adviser Rustem Umerov, Thursday in Miami after Putin on Tuesday rejected the latest 19-point peace plan.
Witkoff and Kushner will apprise Umerov of the latest Russian demands discussed in their five-hour Moscow meeting.
The ultimate hope is to seal a deal to end the war.
President Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on December 3 that Witkoff and Kushner said it appeared that Putin "would like to make a deal."
