We’ve already seen the boundaries of live music pushed into entirely new territory over the last few years with artists performing inside video games like Fortnite in VR on Oculus Venues and it looks like that’s only the beginning of a new form of entertainment.
Wave, a new startup, backed by the likes of Scooter Braun, is reimagining live music by recruiting pop superstars to perform virtually, but not exactly as themselves. Instead, it'll be as their avatars.
An avatar is a computer-simulated character like ones in video games but often personalized to resembled real people which would typically be the case in these performances, though not necessarily.
“I want to work with today’s most forward-thinking leaders in music and technology," Scooter said. "The future of the industry depends on it. Wave does just that. Creating transformative experiences for the next generation of concert-goers."
Look for a bunch of virtual concerts from Wave with big name stars very soon.
