Juan and Carmen have a 16-year-old daughter that's in High School. She's a sophomore, and her boyfriend is a senior.
The Situation
Juan doesn't like his daughter's boyfriend. He feels that he's a young punk. The boy has no manners, and he tries to come across as a bad boy. The boys family has money, and he feels entitled.
Juan and Carmen's daughter asked if she could ride to school next week with her boyfriend, instead of catching the bus. They rarely let her boyfriend take her on car dates. Only to the movies or something with the family. Juan isn't happy about the age difference.
Carmen doesn't care if their daughter rides to school with her boyfriend. They know what time school starts and what time she's going to be home.
Juan doesn't want their 16-year-old daughter depending on a boy for anything. She needs to work hard and save money and get her own car, which could happen next summer. He thinks she should start learning independence now. Leaning on a boy at her age could give her the wrong message. If they broke up, she would be back on the bus. Plus, he doesn't like the boy
Carmen looks at it as just a ride to school. Why make a big deal out of it.
